Alpine

The Lowell Whiteman School offers one of the very best combinations of academics and athletics.  If you are a student-athlete who cares equally about your grades as your podium finishes, then LWS is the shcool and ski program for you have been looking for.

The Alpine team, run in conjunction with the world-renowned Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, makes up the largest group of competitive winter athletes at LWS.  Student-athletes come from all over the country to benefit from the combination of training with the SSWSC and getting the finest education possible at LWS.  Alpinists who call LWS home come from New Hampshire, Wisconsin, Illinois, New Mexico, Mexico, and of course, Colorado.

Led by coach Deb Armstrong, two-time Olympian (1984 & 1988) and Olympic Gold Medalist, the Alpine squad works with some of the best coaches in the country.  Outstanding facilities, the most successful tradition of any club in the US, and a dedication to posting top results, makes the SSWSC's Alpine program one of the most respected in the nation.  And when you merge that with the top-notch education that student-athletes receive at LWS, it's an unbeatable combination.

LWS and SSWSC have produced many notable Alpine competitors, including Caroline Lalive `97 (two-time Olympian), Anna Marno `10, (US Ski Team member in training for the 2014 Olympmics), and Max Marno `09 (also a US Ski Team member aiming at 2014). 

Alpine student-athletes are the busiest competitors as they travel to more races, and they have more training opportunities and camps in the US and abroad.  Ski Coordinator and teacher Gina Wither helps coordinate with coaches and parents enabling them to proctor study halls and exams when Alpiners are on the road. Teachers back home support with video-taped lectures on a server available to students, Google email, pdfs, pre-packaged homework packets, and Google Docs.

The LWS/SSWSC partnership is demanding and rewarding.  We are looking for the most ambitious student-athletes who don't want to sacrifice academics for athletic success.
