Kenzie Rowland, Class of 2002
Originally from New Mexico, Kenzie is one of our competitive snowboarders, a member of student council and known as quite the comedienne around school. Kenzie entertained and delighted her fellow students and teachers during her stay at LWS.
“When I first came to visit the Lowell Whiteman School, I fell in love, I was so stoked to go here. I couldn’t wait to hear if I had gotten in. When I came here, it was only supposed to be a year but I love it so much I ended up staying for two.”
“I love the academics and just being able to snowboard and train every day and still have it feel like I’m accomplishing both well.” Kenzie really grew as a student during her years at LWS making the Dean’s list in 2001 and then Honors in 2002.
“I like being a Boarding student, it makes me miss my parents more, the heart grows fonder. It makes me appreciate them more, what they do for me. And I really like the atmosphere here, Beth (dorm parent) is like a second Mom.”
When asked to sum up her experience, Kenzie said, “I have met people here I will remember all my life. “Meeting the kinds of people I have through the snowboard program is the best. It’s been so great being able to go to Nationals and accomplishing things I never thought were possible. I think SSWSC (Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club) is great, I love the snowboard program, I love my coaches, all of it makes me want to go to practice. I love the mountain and the park. All of it puts me in a good mood to ride.” And ride she does.
