Annual Campaign
The most important gift for today’s students
Like most independent schools across the country, Lowell Whiteman School faces a gap between the actual cost of providing an LWS college preparatory education and the tuition it charges. Tuition at LWS typically covers between 80 and 90 percent of the school’s operating budget. Your Annual Campaign contribution is the most important gift you can make each year to LWS, as it will help fill that gap, balance our budget and enhance the quality of education received by today’s students. Annual Campaign gifts help support excellence in academics, foreign trip, experiential education and need-based financial aid. More specifically, Annual Campaign contributions:
- help maintain small class size
- fund improvements in technology and other educational needs
- further professional development opportunities for teachers
- moderate tuition increases
- strengthen the student body by providing additional dollars for financial aid

100% Participation Challenge
During the 2008-09 year, 100% of Trustees and 75% of the parents of current students made a gift to the LWS Annual Campaign-a combined all-time high level of participation. Our goal is to reach 100% parent participation this year. We challenge alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents and other friends of the school to increase their level of participation as well.
Strong participation from all constituencies is a vote of confidence in the school, and a sign that all parents and others invest in the school at a level commensurate with their family’s resources. This percentage can also have an impact on gifts from outside sources. Most foundations consider annual giving participation rates of trustees, parents, alumni and others close to the school before agreeing to donate funds to an independent school.
How do I make my Annual Campaign gift?
The 2009-2010 Annual Campaign will kickoff in early autumn when each member of the LWS community, including parents, faculty and staff, grandparents, alumni, parents of alumni and friends, will receive a letter providing more details about this year’s campaign. It is our hope that your response will be a resounding “Yes!”
