Planned Giving

Planned giving involves opportunities for you to donate via a trust, annuity, insurance policy, or most commonly, a bequest. Planned gifts involve a variety of strategies to combine philanthropy with financial planning. In fact, a planned gift may help you give more to support the LWS Experience than you thought possible while still providing you or someone you designate with favorable financial and/or tax benefits. Donors who contribute to the school through planned giving become members of the LWS Legacy Society, a group of individuals who share a strong belief in the value of giving back for the benefit of future generations.
Bequests to The Lowell Whiteman School are deductible from your gross estate and can therefore offer estate tax savings. There is no limit on the amount you can leave to the School or to other charitable organizations through your Will. Depending on the current tax laws, leaving a gift to charity in your Will may reduce the estate tax burden on your heirs significantly. You should consult with a financial advisor or attorney to learn how planned giving may actually benefit your family after you’re gone.
Legal Designation: For gifts that will take effect after your lifetime, The Lowell Whiteman School should be named as: The Lowell Whiteman School, a nonprofit corporation, organized and existing under the laws of the State of Colorado and with principal business address of 42605 Routt County Road 36, Steamboat Springs, Colorado 80487
Use of Gifts: You may either specify a particular use for your bequest or leave it unrestricted. Unrestricted gifts offer the advantage of permitting the Lowell Whiteman School to allocate resources in a manner consistent with changing priorities and strategies over time. If you wish to direct that your bequest is to be used for a particular purpose, please contact the Development Office to discuss the suitability of your designation.
Many people name charities in their Wills and never let the benefiting organization acknowledge their invaluable support. If you complete your Will and include the Lowell Whiteman School as a beneficiary, we hope that you will let us know. We feel strongly about expressing our gratitude to those supporters who have remembered Lowell Whiteman School in such a generous and meaningful way.
