Employment at LWS

LWS Job Openings for the 2010-2011 School Year:

The Lowell Whiteman School Fellowship Program

Founded in 1957, The Lowell Whiteman School is a small college preparatory co-educational boarding-day school, grades 9 –12, situated in the Rocky Mountains of northwestern Colorado. A rich, full academic experience is complemented with an extensive experiential program. Students commit to either foreign travel or competitive skiing/riding. The school has a strong residential program for boarding students.

There are three or four residential-teaching fellowships offered each year—one in the girls’ residence hall, one in each of the two boys’ residences and, some years, a fourth that entails teaching and admission or development work. Generally, a fellow’s primary responsibilities involve teaching two classes and supervising residential students. Fellows are also responsible for supervising afternoon activities and assisting faculty leaders on outdoor and wilderness trips. Therefore, experience in some of the following is necessary: backpacking, mountain biking, rock climbing, skiing, snow boarding, horseback riding, kayaking/canoeing. Outdoor certifications are valued.

Candidates should have an undergraduate degree in an academic discipline. Advanced degrees are an advantage, as is any demonstrated success teaching, regardless of the setting.

Candidates should have demonstrated success working with high-school age students, ideally in a residential experience. Coaching or counseling experience is valued.

The appointment is for one school year, beginning in late August through the first week of June.  Compensation includes a $13,500 stipend, room, board, health benefits and a season pass to the Steamboat Ski Area.

Interested parties should contact Walt Daub, Head of School, 42605 County Road #36, Steamboat Springs, CO 80487, daubw@lws.edu
