Community Life
The Lowell Whiteman School is a boarding and day school, with about 60% of our students living on campus as boarders. In the past five years, we’ve enrolled students from 24 states and 6 countries, making for a diverse and expansive experience for all of our students. The opportunity to live in Steamboat and be surrounded by students from all over the country and the world is is an essential component of our program, and makes for more sophisticated students.
A typical weekday is balanced between academic time and athletic activity, ensuring that students maintain a healthy mix of intellectual and physical exercise. Nearly all of the faculty live on campus, and all students and faculty contribute to helping run and maintain the school. All-school announcements bring the community together on a daily basis, keeping everyone on the same page.
Even with the multitude of programs LWS offers, the school is at its heart a community of learners and explorers. Clearly, LWS appeals to young people who have a desire to work as hard as they play, and to be connected to a small school that asks a great deal of them, in and out of the classroom. The school community, bolstered by enthusiastic young people and dynamic faculty, makes the education all the more meaningful.
