Anchorage, Away: LWS Ventures to Alaska’s Nordic JOs

Wednesday, March 19th, 2008

On Friday, March 7, Nordic skiers Sophie Leonard, Class of 2008, and Molly Newman, Class of 2010, packed their bags, loaded their skis and set off for Alaska to compete in the J2 Nationals Nordic Division.  Both competitors were optimistic heading to the prestigious invitational, and while not performing as well as they had hoped, they were still able to place in the middle of the pack in several events.  The overall experience was “incredible… really fun and exciting.”  Leonard said, “I wish we would have done better, but I’m grateful for the experience.  Also, I want to send out a big thanks to [Coaches] Travis Jones and Brian Tate for waxing [our skis].” Both girls have bright futures ahead of them.  Leonard plans to continue her Nordic career in college next year, and Newman will continue to compete with the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club.
