College Counseling

The college application process allows students to learn more about themselves and the choices that they make. We work hard with our seniors and encourage them to find colleges that will be good matches for them, both as students and individuals.  Although many students begin standardized testing and college planning in the sophomore year, the formal college process begins in the second semester of the junior year and continues throughout the senior year.

A Successful Process

Sarah Hoffman, Director of College Counseling, leads the students with a clear set of objectives, tools, and to-do lists to the make the college application process successful for students and their families. Click here to view the LWS College Handbook.

American high school parents report that senior year for their students can be stressful and confusing. Pressure to get into the right college, and the complexity of how to do it, are listed as the biggest concerns. At LWS, Ms. Hoffman works with smaller groups of applying students than do college counselors at many schools.  This rare one-on-one assistance is one of the best features of the LWS college preparation program. Parents are kept informed during the process and are educated along with their students.

The LWS College process also makes use of Naviance online software which is state-of-the-art in college applications.  Using Naviance allows students and our Director to keep track on one location of pending or completed applications, essays and letters of recommendations.  Even when foreign travelers and competitors are on the road or home for summer vacation, they may continue to work on college applications.
