Steamboat Springs is an authentic Western family town, catering to real families who care about a community that takes care of its children. Historically, Steamboat is a ranching/mining town, named by pioneers for the sounds they heard coming from springs in the local streams and rivers. Now, while there is still plenty of agriculture and mining, Steamboat is known as a world class skiing and snowboarding area, and as a summer playground. The population of 10,000 swells to nearly double that during the height of the winter season.
Steamboat is a destination resort, 157 miles northwest of Denver, 85 miles north of I-70, and 11 miles from the Continental Divide. Steamboat offers world-class skiing/riding and competitive facilities during the winter months; golf, fishing, white water rafting, kayaking, hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, mountain biking and many other sports are available during the spring, summer and fall.
