Ryan St. Onge, 2010 Olympic Gold Favorite
Lowell Whiteman School has a long-established relationship with the renowned Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club. Together we train athletes and help them pursue their dreams. We also work to ensure their successful future route to college. Alumni and current students include 17 Olympians and many XGames athletes - such as 2002 Freestyle Silver Medalist, Travis Mayer ‘00, Freeskiing phenom and XGames Silver Medalist, Pep Fujas ‘01, and 2003 Nordic Combined World Champion, Johnny Spillane ‘99, 2010 Olympic Freestylist Contender, Ryan St. Onge, ‘03, Extreme Freeskier Champ Francesca Pavillard-Cain, ‘09 US Ski Team Alpine Member, Anna Marno, ‘10 to name a very few.
Students train throughout the fall and compete in the winter in the disciplines of Alpine, Nordic, Freestyle, and Snowboarding. During the competition season, athletes are allowed flexibility to tailor their academic program to fit their competition schedule. Academic coursework is then made up during the intensive Intersession within the Lowell Whiteman School academic program in April. Teachers work personally with athletes to make training and academics a success.
“LWS is giving me the tools to prepare for college and beyond,” Maria Hillenbrand, Alpine racer, ‘11, said in a recent interview. “LWS is an amazing opportunity,- not just that it’s about your own commitment and dedication, but to know that we have the support behind us, too,” - Senior Francesca Pavillard-Cain, Telemark Extreme Skier, ‘09.
