Steamboat Springs & Community

Information and Links on this Page

Our founder, Lowell Whiteman, knew what he was doing when he chose Steamboat (his home town) as a site for a camp and then a school. He knew that the beautiful location and the opportunity for so many activities would prove irresistible. We have provided links to other pages to help you learn more about this beautiful town- see below. These links include the Steamboat Ski Area and the Chamber of Commerce.

Steamboat Springs is an old ranching/mining town turned ski/ride and summer resort. Ranching is still a part of the community and Steamboat has retained its sense of history and the Old West. The summer population is 7,000 and the winter population is 20,000. Steamboat is 157 miles northwest of Denver and 11 miles from the Continental Divide. Steamboat offers world-class skiing and competitive facilities during the winter months; golf, fishing, white water rafting, kayaking, hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, mountain biking and many other sports are available during the spring, summer and fall.

Buses, taxis and commuter flights link Steamboat Springs with Denver. During ski season, there are direct flights to Hayden (a town 1/2 hour from Steamboat.) The three-hour drive from Denver offers spectacular scenery. In town, there is a free bus running from town to the mountain and to many other destinations as well. Alpine Taxi (970) 879-8294 provides limo and taxi service both locally as well as to and from Denver.
