Campus Plan Details
1) New boys’ residence hall, replacing the Bunkhouse, is recessed into the hillside with southern exposure using active and passive solar. The residence hall is built green and includes expanded social spaces, single through quad living and apartments for dorm parents and additional interns. During the final stages of plan implementation, Whittum House will be expanded to replace Kakela Hall as the older boys’ residence hall and a small expansion of Elizabeth Hall will be added, if needed to accommodate increased enrollment of female students.
2) New student center includes a library and study center with computer labs, a 200+ seat auditorium expandable into a new dining hall and kitchen that accommodates our entire school community and a student lounge for social gathering. This two-story building connects to the upper floors of Williams and Borden with an enclosed walkway and a new elevator provides handicapped access.
3) Remodel of Williams Lodge and Borden Center provides best practice science labs, expanded classroom spaces with faculty offices and a new art studio. Energy efficient renovations are incorporated into all construction and a new face for Borden helps to architecturally unify the campus design.
4) Remodel and addition to Henderson Gym creates an indoor recreational environment reflective of our students’ lifestyle that includes an expanded climbing wall, a bouldering cave, spaces for yoga and trampoline, a weight room and smaller gym floor for court games.
5) Additional faculty, administration and staff housing is built throughout the campus enhancing our school community and providing much needed affordable housing opportunities. Apartments are incorporated into new construction, Kakela is renovated into townhouses and some new single family houses are built to allow singles, couples and families to all live on campus.
6) Circular entrance drive creates a new face and attractive “front yard” for the school. The one-way drive clearly defines traffic patterns and increases safety while the landscaped area adds to the green space and showcases our Landon Sawyer Memorial sculpture, new LWS museum in the relocated tack shed, historic carriage and new sign.
7) New interior road accessing new parking areas is moved to the north edge of the campus to maximize open space and provide single road access for better security. Daytime lots are screened from the road and conveniently located near the main entrance. Parking for residential halls and faculty/staff housing is provided adjacent to each building.
8) Expanded green spaces and outdoor gathering places include a central campus green with a larger playing field, natural amphitheater and fire pit, patios at each dorm and a new terrace with barbeque area outside the dining hall.
9) Outdoor recreational activities such as mountain biking, hiking and horse trails, an expanded ski park, a permanent skate ramp, an outdoor trampoline and bouldering spots are incorporated into our natural mountain setting.
10) New maintenance facility is relocated away from the academic buildings and includes covered parking for vehicles and housing for the maintenance supervisor and chef.
