Faculty: Joanne "Doc" Lasko
Joanne Lasko is our Academic Dean and she admits Shakespeare is nearly her favorite person. She has more than 26 years of teaching at the school to her credit.
LWS
Experience Video:
Johnny Spillane, Class of 1999 -- Olympic Triple Silver Medalist in a 2010 Olympic Moment. "Lowell Whiteman School made it possible for me to do what I've done. If you get an opportunity to go to a school like this, take it! I recognized what I had here and it really made it possible for me to get where I am."
Parents
Welcome………………You’re Part of Our Community
The relationship we maintain with parents is just as important as the relationships we build with your children. When your student comes to LWS, you become part of our community and part of our family. Parents whose students have long graduated still attend our events, volunteer at the school, visit when they’re in town and come to graduations and reunions. We welcome them just as warmly as our graduates.
Now that you’re part of LWS……..
We realize it’s important to get your questions answered and to share information with you, not just at the beginning of the year, but all year long. You’ll find daily class schedules and a yearly calendar in the Parents Section (at left). We also have lodging information and a Steamboat page to help you find fun an interesting things to do in Steamboat.

For that reason, we’ll share current news with you weekly. Check out our News Section. We’ll tell you what’s going on at school so you feel included in your student’s education. We’ll tell you about school events, academic news, class discussions and projects, sports results, awards, college acceptances and if you’ll allow us, success stories of your own student. We’ll share the wealth of what an LWS education and experience can provide. You’ll receive notice in an email when a new posting of current news is ready to view on our site. You can look at news going back in time, in case you missed a segment.
Please feel free to contribute your own news items to news@lws.edu. Technology Director and Yearbook Director Trenia Sanford compiles the news weekly and is always looking for editorials and photos. Especially sports, ski/ride and after school activity photos.

Parents’ Weekends
Lastly, we encourage you to take advantage of our two parents’ weekends offered in October and February of each school year. On Fridays of those weekends, you can go to classes with your student and in the afternoons, you can meet with each teacher and review progress and grades. We relish the opportunity to show you in person what it’s like to be at LWS. There’s no better way for you to feel the pulse of your student’s education. We often have an event on Saturday night and Sunday and Monday are reserved for family time. Schedules for those weekends will be posted on the Parents Weekend pages.
Communication with LWS - Gmail & Google Calendars
We have contact with our parents daily, through the offices of the Dean of Students, our Residential Parents, Academic Dean, Office/Business Managers, College Counselor, and teachers. We use Gmail and all of us are lastnamefirstinitial@lws.edu. Students get a Gmail login as well and are required to check it daily. Our school calendar is Google, available within the Parents area.
We hope that you, our parents, will find the information you need in many cases on our site @lws.edu. But if you don’t, and you have concerns, emailing is often the most expedient. You will get a response often in the same day but we guarantee an email reply to you within 24 hours. Teachers often run afternoon activities and therefore, don’t have afternoons free to check email. If you are uncomfortable with emailing, you are welcome to call. The extensions are on our Contact Us page. Most teachers do not have their own extensions; you can leave a message for them with the front desk if it’s an emergency.
LWS Advisor Program - By the end of September of each school year, your student will have an assigned advisor. This teacher or residential staff member will be part of the support team for your student. You can email the adviser at any time for academic, social or logistical questions.
Welcome!
