Johnny Spillane, Class of 1999 -- Olympic Triple Silver Medalist in a 2010 Olympic Moment. "Lowell Whiteman School made it possible for me to do what I've done. If you get an opportunity to go to a school like this, take it! I recognized what I had here and it really made it possible for me to get where I am."

Graduation & Upcoming Events
Welcome back foreign travelers!
Participants from the Bolivia, Morocco, Swaziland/Mozambique and India trips returned within the last few days. They had exciting adventures to relate and more than a few funny stories. We're giving them time to adjust to the time zone and catch up with school. Group leaders will meet with the groups in the next few weeks to gather photos, make the trip collages for display at the school, and gather stories for publishing. We'll be publishing those on the site and in the next LWS Experience.
Intersession was a great success
Athletes caught up on their work during a very mellow four weeks. Shelby Dyer and Maria Hillenbrand organized a final activity - "Cinco de Mayo" night. Day students came up to campus and a fun time was had by all.
New Head of School Visit
Our new, upcoming Head of School Chris Taylor (effective June 30th) will be visiting campus this week beginning Thursday. All parents of current LWS students, please join us for coffee with Chris Friday May 14th from 8:00 - 9:00 a.m. in the Dining Hall on campus.
2010 Prom
Prom was a hit at the Grand but "After Prom" was a bigger hit. From all reports, the After Prom committee had a hypnotist, bouncy rooms, (like at kid parties), dancing, snacks, and lots of other activities at the high school until 6:00 a.m. After Prom has made Prom night safe for students giving them a place for fun activities together until the early morning hours. We thank all volunteers who made this happen, working so hard on these special events.

Hunter McLean ('13) is asking for support for the Steamboat Gravity team. This group is a SSWSC extension for youth cycling, focusing on gravity and freeride aspects of mountain biking. On May 7th (upcoming Friday) the Steamboat Gravity Team is hosting a movie night at the Steamboat Spring Community Center. The featured film is "Follow me” to begin at 8 pm. Tickets are 10$ at your local bike shop (Ski Haus, Ski and Bike Kare, Orange Peel etc). The funds will allow the team to travel to more places for racing and training this summer, according to Hunter. Check out http://www.steamboatgravityteam.com.
A Warm Thank You
Thanks to intersession faculty and staff for putting all shoulders to the wheels. We had a great time being with kids during this intense but personal academic time. It's refreshing for some of us to do something different like House parent in the Residence Halls! I understand the attraction to pizza and cookie dough. Totally. Intersession students were magnificent and Brian Smith (interim Dean) told them that they were by far the finest Intersession group we have seen. Joe Roberts reportedly signed his text messages from Kakela to Sarah Hoffman in Elizabeth Hall as "Your Duty Bro, Joe." It was Mr. Roberts' last intersession, which is mind-boggling indeed. Mr. Linville has been telling Joe Roberts stories at lunch and faculty who have been lucky enough to hear them have learned a great deal about what it takes to successfully teach, camp, and travel with students for 42 years!
Also, thanks to the foreign travel faculty. You all did a fantastic job. By all reports, the trips were all amazing. We realize that some of you were pretty challenged with weather, tummy ailments, and travel disruptions of all sorts. Such are the realities of traveling. Margi reported the Bolivia students were awesome; no matter what obstacles needed to be overcome, they were up for it. Being on duty 24-7 for four weeks is a Herculean feat and we appreciate all your hard work and dedication.
Thanks also to our LWS foreign travel students who rose to the occasion of foreign travel, embraced foreign cultures and opportunites to grow and learn. You lucky ducks.
