Gertrude Fetcher
We learned that Gertrude Fetcher died Wednesday, September 4, at about 10 p.m. She was at home and her son Lincoln was with her. A former teacher, employee, long-time trustee and Trustee Emeritus, Gertrude was a great friend of The Lowell Whiteman School and many who still work here. She supported LWS faithfully and loyally from its founding until last Wednesday. There will be a memorial for her on Saturday, September 13th at 1:30 p.m. at the Strings Pavilion in Steamboat. Please bring a long stemmed flower if you are able to attend. A reception will follow the service.
We will miss her.

If you have not already contacted Lynne to sign up your sophomore student, please send an email to lynne@lws.edu. The cost for both juniors and sophomores is $20 and will be taken out of the student account.
From the College Counseling Office
Deadlines for upcoming SAT and ACT tests are as follows:
SAT, Sept. 9th and ACT, Sept. 19th.
Mrs. Morse and Lynne held college meetings with the junior and senior classes during orientation. Juniors were advised to keep their eye on academics this year as this is the last year that colleges will have a full year of grades to view on transcripts. Seniors were urged to complete their checklist on the Naviance college counseling website. Parents of seniors are asked to complete the parent questionnaire and parent recommendation on Naviance. These components are important for counselors when they are writing their recommendations. Please click on the Naviance link to access your student’s information. Contact Lynne@lws.edu if you have questions about passwords. Click here to view the college counseling workbook.

I am sorry to learn of Gertrude’s death. I remember her kind heart and willingness to listen to me when I was a student at LWS in the late sixties. She always had time to talk with students and offer her understanding and empathy for the challenges of teen agers faced with growing up away from home and family. She was both a counselor and friend.
She was indeed part of the Whiteman experience and I’m sure she will be missed.
