Gertrude Fetcher
We learned that Gertrude Fetcher died Wednesday, September 4, at about 10 p.m. She was at home and her son Lincoln was with her. A former teacher, employee, long-time trustee and Trustee Emeritus, Gertrude was a great friend of The Lowell Whiteman School and many who still work here. She supported LWS faithfully and loyally from its founding until last Wednesday. We will miss her.

***PLEASE FORWARD TO YOUNG SINGERS!****
Dear Singers,
I am DELIGHTED to have the opportunity to re-institute a youth choir for Steamboat Springs! Now that Emerald City Opera as hired an Executive Director (two weeks ago!), I am able to find enough time in my schedule to participate in one of my most favorite musical activities-working with young singers in a choral group! I’ve missed the Columbine Youth Chorale immensely.. J
I hope that many of you who have sung with me in the past or had young singers who did, will consider joining the chorus, and will also share this opportunity with other young singers that you know.
My plan is to run the program with whichever age range shows the most interest. However, if BOTH age groups reach capacity (minimum of 15 participants) I will consider running 2 groups.
Also, it is my hope that the Youth Chorus will be under the umbrella of Emerald City Opera, as the company will again someday, present a production with a youth chorus (and it may be La Boheme again soon!), but the Board has not yet had time to gather and discuss this. In the meantime, I am planning to run the group whether it is a separate entity or a part of the opera company, and want to get the word out ASAP!
THANK YOU and I look forward to singing with you this semester
Musically yours,
Keri Rusthoi
PSAT
All juniors are required to take the PSAT on Saturday, October 18th; the cost is $20.00. Sophomores are welcome to take the test, but are not required to. If you have a sophomore that would like to take the test, please email lynne@lws.edu. The PSAT is an opportunity for students to take a standardized test similar to the SAT test. We do not report PSAT scores to colleges, so it is a chance for students to take a standardized test with no pressure. When the scores come back in December, the student receives his or her test booklet with all of the questions as well as an answer sheet that indicates the student’s answer, the correct answer, and the skill that was being tested.
