Announcements During Parents’ Weekend

Parents’ Chat Debut-Sixteen parents joined Mitch Globe and the Parent Association for the first in a series of informative conversations. Three residential students joined the group to offer a student perspective on the topic: “Teens, Choices and the Parent Role” (drugs, alcohol, peer pressure, availability, etc.). Thank you to the Grand Futures Prevention Coalition for providing informative handouts. If you have feedback on this event, or you would like to propose another topic for the next Chat, please contact Mitch Globe via email at globem@lws.edu.

Focus Group-Grand Futures, the City of Steamboat Springs, Yampa Valley Community Foundation, and the NW Colorado Community Health Project are sponsoring four separate focus groups to share groundbreaking research on the detrimental effects of alcohol and substance abuse on young people. The first meeting will be held on Monday, March 17th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Olympian Hall. For more information call (970) 879-6188.

College Counseling-Thank you to those parents and students that attended college counseling meetings held during Parents’ Weekend. If you did not attend the junior meeting, please visit our website, click on LWS Programs and navigate to the College Counseling area. We have posted the power point presentation for your review or click on Power Point to go directly to the presentation. Meg and Lynne are beginning to meet with juniors and will be monitoring their Naviance profiles. Be aware that the deadline to sign up for the April 12th ACT is March 7th. The test will be held at the Steamboat Springs High School.

Academics-The Final Exam Schedule has been posted to our website. Click here to view. Grades and comments were mailed on Saturday, March 1st. If you have not received grades and comments please contact Lynne@lws.edu. Advisors will begin to meet with students on Monday, March 10th to assist them with course selections for the 2008-2009 school year. Intersession will begin on Monday, April 14th through Friday, May 9th. The academic day runs from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Students are expected to be on campus all day. Experiential Education-Margi will be sending an important letter regarding Foreign Travel mid March. Please be sure to read it carefully. You will be asked to complete a form giving the school permission to take your student out of the country (if you completed this form during Parents’ Weekend, please disregard this message). In addition, students will be asked to complete a form regarding pre and post trip logistics. If, after you have received this information, you have any questions, please contact Margi@lws.edu.

Calendar Change-LWS Day, listed in our school calendar on March 12th, will be cancelled. The school will hold a Community Service Day in its place on Friday, May 23rd.

Spring arrives March 20th—Hang in there and enjoy the skiing & riding!
Spring Arrives March 20th!!

Spring Break-Classes end at 12:25 p.m. on Friday, March 28th. There will be a shuttle to Denver International Airport leaving campus at 5:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 29th. Parents should make individual transportation arrangements for their student to return to campus. REMEMBER, there will be NO SHUTTLE DURING INTERSESSION!!
